May 14th BBPC Meeting

We turned up with dad at 7.50pm to be told by one of dads friends that they ( the BBPC) had tried to start the meeting at 7.30pm as they wanted to finish early, however DF (dads friend) reminded them that they had advertised to let people know the meeting was at 8pm. Thank you DF!

All the councillors were present including a spare one from Torridge DC. (something to do with new integration of council rules coming in).

At 8pm the chairman stood up to let us know that “ there will be no questions, so do not ask any as they will NOT be answered. This is NOT a debating society”.

Then the meeting started and we eventually got to the allotments.

Secretary “ we have a letter here from Mr AA saying he is resigning his allotment due to other commitments”

Chairman “ok. Next”

Secretary “ we have a letter here requesting a 6ft by 8ft shed as she needs it to keep her rotervater in, can she have one?”

Chairman (shouts) “NO!!, but then that would be petty wouldn’t it so I suppose we had better say yes, all in agreement?” at this point quickly casts eyes over the other councillors and says “yes we are all in agreement” (we think we missed something there as he did NOT ask for a proposal, a second or a vote! He made the entire decision himself)

 Chairman “what’s next”

 Secretary “ Mr Harvey’s greenhouse”

At this point the Chairman (who had been slouching) sits bolt upright and starts saying “ we are all in agreement that he has done nothing to remove it…..”

He was interrupted by a raised voice from councillor H saying “ get the police, the police can bring it down, he cant do anything about it then, the police can come and remove it, perhaps he will see we mean business then”

The chairman went on to say “ then we are all in agreement that Mr Harvey is served with 12 months notice ongoing as of today”

Again no proposal, no second no vote.

After this we left feeling that we had just been in a scene from the Vicar of Digby.

So dad was served notice at the meeting, now we sit and wait for the letter to arrive
